It all began in 1986 when my jaw locked up while having my semi-annual dental check-up and my bite was off by approximately one and one-half inches. My dentist referred me to an oral surgeon who then sent me to an orthodontist. Between these two doctors I was involved in numerous major jaw surgeries and 4 years of orthodontics. The end result by 1993…still major jaw problems which resulted in deterioration of the jaw socket and an open occlusion.
In 1993 I received three other doctors’ options and they were aghast at the results from my many surgeries which had been incorrectly completed. The evaluation was more surgery and yet again 4 more years of orthodontics. They seemed to be getting closer to a proper occlusion and once the braces where off I felt good about the end result. Unfortunately, within a year, due to the unsettling of my jaw joints, I was once again in the same place with an open occlusion which seemed far worse than previously.
By this time I was ready to give up and stop spending time and money!
In 2003 I was referred to Dr. Baba for my routine semi-annual dental check-up and upon discussing my past history he seemed genuinely interested and concerned about my failed process over the last 17 years. I had never felt as comfortable with a doctor as I did with Dr. Baba. After consulting with him and realizing his true concern I was willing to listen and decided to pursue further possible corrections.
Dr. Baba spent hours researching my past record and the options he felt were available to me. Upon presenting these options to me, I made my decision and in 2003 he began the correction process by observing my jaw function for approximately one year, which was definitely his first victory with me. In 2004 the deterioration had completed its process, and he then proceeded with hours of measurements, fittings and more. His perfection has definitely paid off for me and here we are today in 2006 and my occlusion is still perfect… A FIRST! YAHOO!! I have gone back periodically for minimal touch-ups that only Dr. Baba could see, I couldn’t feel, that’s a true perfectionist.
During a semi-annual dental cleaning here in my local town of Crested Butte, Colorado, my hygienist was thoroughly impressed with the work Dr. Baba did and had wished she’d known of him prior to her personal dental work being done. During the cleaning, on several occasions her responses were “This work is perfect, absolutely perfect! It’s just beautiful.”
His perfectionism and professionalism, his hard work and long hours, along with his incredible team, have made not only my smile but my bite perfect and beautiful! I owe them a great deal of gratitude. This is the first time in 35 years I have been able to bite down on all my teeth, enjoy foods like pizza and steak, and smile with a centered smile.
